How are different types of hepatitis viruses?
Hepatitis is a common disease in Thailand that can lead to chronic hepatitis, liver cirrhosis, and liver cancer, causing significant mortality. Each type of hepatitis virus has different characteristics and modes of transmission. Here is the information.
- Hepatitis A Virus (Frequently encountered)
Transmission: Through contaminated food or water
Symptoms: Fever, fatigue, loss of appetite, nausea, jaundice - Hepatitis B Virus (Frequently encountered)
Transmission: Through blood contact and sexual intercourse, from mother to child
Symptoms: Severe hepatitis, can progress to liver disease and liver cancer - Hepatitis C Virus
Transmission: Through blood contact and sexual intercourse
Symptoms: Chronic hepatitis leading to liver cirrhosis and liver cancer - Hepatitis D Virus
Transmission: Through blood contact, primarily in individuals already infected with Hepatitis B
Symptoms: Acute hepatitis, severe liver disease with a high risk of mortality - Hepatitis E Virus
Transmission: Consuming undercooked food, such as pork and poultry
Symptoms: Yellowing of the eyes, pale stools, fatigue
