Quick check! Will we get GERD?

Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a condition caused by the backward flow of stomach contents, whether it's acid or gas, into the esophagus. Normally, there is a certain amount of acid reflux from the stomach into the esophagus after eating, but people with this condition experience more frequent or severe reflux. Today, we want to share the "symptoms" of GERD with everyone:

  • Burning sensation in the chest and throat, sometimes radiating to the neck, resembling a lump. Swallowing might be difficult, and there can be throat discomfort. Nausea, frequent burping, and regurgitation of stomach contents causing a bitter taste in the mouth.
  • Feeling of fullness or tightness in the abdomen, as if food isn't digesting properly. Bad breath or a sour taste in the mouth might accompany this.
  • After eating, there might be bloating, nausea, vomiting, or dry coughing frequently.
  • Morning hoarseness or chronic hoarseness, which could be caused by the reflux irritating the vocal cords.
  • Excessive saliva or difficulty breathing while sleeping.

GERD can disrupt daily life and affect self-esteem, and if left untreated, it can lead to serious conditions like esophageal cancer and even death. Therefore, it's important to maintain good health, avoid triggers that worsen GERD, and consult a doctor for proper treatment.
